Fiji will participate in the inaugural Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, taking place this month in Bogota, Colombia. The Fijian delegation will be led by Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, who will be accompanied by Ms. Natalie Siegel-Brown, the Child Advisor at the Ministry, and Ms. Arieta Tagivetaua, the Director for Children.

During the conference, Minister Tabuya aims to highlight and promote the concept of care blogs in Fiji, drawing parallels with similar initiatives in Colombia. These care blogs serve as safe spaces for caregivers and the working class, offering a respite from their daily challenges.

Tabuya stressed the importance of creating such supportive environments in Fiji, especially for its working class and caregivers of cancer patients. She noted that care blogs provide designated areas for childcare, eldercare, and support for individuals with disabilities, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to essential services while caregivers attend to other responsibilities like education or health visits.

The Minister expressed her hope to bring back valuable insights from the conference to implement transformative changes in Fiji, fostering a supportive network for those most in need.

This conference presents an invaluable opportunity for Fiji to align with global efforts and seek innovative solutions to combat violence against children, ultimately contributing to a brighter future for the nation’s youth.
