Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and a Fijian delegation recently observed the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) personnel during their training with Australian counterparts at the Shoalwater Bay Training Area in Central Queensland. This visit is part of Rabuka’s official trip to Australia, coinciding with the ongoing Talisman Sabre 2025 exercise, which is one of the largest multinational military exercises in the region, involving approximately 30,000 military personnel from 19 countries, including Australia, the United States, and New Zealand.
The training program, which spans five months, aims to enhance military cooperation and interoperability among participating nations. Fiji’s involvement highlights its commitment to regional security and collaboration through ongoing exercises and training initiatives. Mr. Rabuka emphasized the importance of joint training, stating, “By training, exercising, and deploying together, Fiji and Australia are improving our combined capability, capacity, and interoperability.”
The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to witness a live demonstration of offensive training tactics, showcasing the readiness and capabilities of the RFMF. This engagement marks a significant step in fostering closer defense ties between Fiji and Australia and is part of a broader strategy to address regional security challenges collectively.
Fiji’s participation in Talisman Sabre and previous collaborations, such as the Vuvale Partnership with Australia, indicates a proactive approach towards enhancing military effectiveness and readiness. The RFMF’s commitment to international military cooperation contributes not only to regional stability but also to broader peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.
The positive outlook for Fiji’s military collaboration with Australia and other regional partners underscores the commitment to unity and shared interests, creating a resilient foundation for future cooperation in face of evolving security dynamics in the Pacific region.
