The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) is enhancing its strategies for drug rehabilitation and prevention by actively participating in a significant workshop hosted by the Singapore Prison Service. The workshop, titled the “Evidence-Informed Drug Rehabilitation and Prevention Workshop 2025,” took place from May 13 to 18 and included delegates from 14 countries.

Representing Fiji at the workshop are Acting Commissioner Mr. Sevuloni Naucukidi and Director of Education, Training, and Rehabilitation SSPT Aisea Rainima. Their participation aligns with the FCS’s ongoing commitment to embracing international best practices in tackling drug-related issues within the correctional system.

Additionally, Naucukidi and Rainima attended the Asia-Pacific Forum Against Drugs 2025, which emphasized the importance of regional collaboration and evidence-based solutions to counter the growing challenges posed by drug use in society. The forum highlighted cross-border cooperation as a means to develop effective strategies to address drug problems, thus reinforcing Fiji’s dedication to international standards in correctional practices.

These engagements not only promise to refine Fiji’s rehabilitation models but also aim to prevent the escalation of drug issues, following the examples set by other nations. The commitment from the FCS reflects a focused effort to build safer, more resilient communities through effective rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.

This proactive approach is vital for Fiji, particularly given the increasing challenges associated with drug abuse. The commitment to community collaboration underscores the importance of preventive measures through education and awareness, which are essential components for successful drug rehabilitation efforts.

The FCS’s attendance at these workshops and forums represents a hopeful step toward fostering a safer future for the community, showcasing the agency’s commitment to a rehabilitative framework that impacts both current and future generations positively.
