Fiji’s Bold Step Against Corruption: New Anti-Bribery Campaign Launched!

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has initiated its Anti-Bribery Campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Community Development. This unveiling took place at a ceremony today at FICAC’s headquarters in Suva.

During the event, FICAC’s Manager for Corruption Prevention, Kolora Naliva, announced that 62 institutions have embraced the campaign, while 38 others are yet to join the nationwide anti-corruption initiative. She underscored the critical role of the Ministry of Housing in maintaining transparency and integrity in its decision-making processes. “The ministry plays a pivotal role in managing Fiji’s housing system and addressing local priorities on behalf of the government,” Naliva stated.

Emosi Raqisa, Projects Manager at the Ministry of Housing, emphasized the timeliness of the campaign, particularly as the ministry has come under scrutiny due to past corruption allegations. He highlighted the necessity of training for staff to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, remarking, “This training is vital to guarantee all staff operate without bias and favoritism. Removing corruption helps us provide better services to Fiji’s most vulnerable populations who rely on government assistance.”

The Anti-Bribery Campaign aims to foster ethical conduct within government institutions and rebuild public confidence by tackling corruption directly.

This initiative presents a hopeful and proactive step towards enhancing governance in Fiji, signaling the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability. By focusing on ethical behavior, the campaign seeks to not only rectify past mismanagement but also to ensure a fairer, more equitable system for all Fijians.
