Fiji’s Bold Stand Against Marijuana Cultivation: What Comes Next?

The Fiji Police Force is determined to eradicate marijuana cultivation throughout the islands, as expressed by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu during a recent ceremony at the Koro High School passing-out parade. In his address, Tudravu firmly stated that police efforts will continue until all marijuana plants are removed. He urged anyone involved in marijuana planting to reconsider, emphasizing, “we will hunt you down until you are tired and you will give up planting marijuana.”

Tudravu’s message extends beyond just addressing cultivators. He also reached out to the youth, advising them against substance use, urging them to take pride in their education and community. “Children, do not eat marijuana, do not even try it. Say no to drugs,” he added.

This initiative aligns with the ongoing Operation Sasamaki, which has made notable progress with the recent seizure of over 31,000 marijuana plants in Kadavu. Previous reports noted successful raids resulting in multiple arrests, including a 19-year-old caught with nearly 4,000 plants, demonstrating a strategic and committed approach to dismantling drug networks across Fiji.

The emphasis on community support highlighted by Tudravu reflects a broader understanding that collaboration between law enforcement and citizens is crucial in combating drug-related crime. As operations continue, the hope is that these efforts will ultimately lead to a safer and healthier environment for future generations in Fiji.

These continued police initiatives instill optimism that through collective action, the growing drug problems can be significantly diminished, fostering stronger families and secure communities across the islands.
