The National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, along with Vision 2050, was launched today at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. This extensive policy document will steer government resource allocation for the upcoming five years and establish a foundation for Fiji’s development over the next 25 years.

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica emphasized that the NDP embodies a new political mandate focused on improving the well-being of citizens, promoting inclusivity, and fostering sustainable development. The NDP and Vision 2050 are built on three main pillars: economic resilience, people empowerment, and good governance.

Kamikamica remarked that the NDP will serve as a catalyst for transformative changes that will lead to enhanced economic growth and more opportunities. He underscored the significance of collective action for the plan’s successful implementation, asserting that united efforts are essential for advancing sustainable development and achieving a prosperous Fiji.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the new plan places the people’s needs and aspirations at its core, ensuring that development is fair and inclusive. He stated that any development initiative that does not prioritize its people is both ineffective and unrealistic.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad described the NDP as a comprehensive, strategic, and forward-looking vision. He highlighted that over 21,000 individuals, including representatives from civil society organizations, industry groups, government agencies, academia, students, and faith-based organizations, contributed their perspectives and ideas during the consultation process.

Prasad remarked that the NDP emerges at a crucial time, intending to address pressing global, regional, and national challenges that affect the nation’s future. He added that the Plan seeks to provide Fiji with the opportunity to carve a path toward becoming a resilient, sustainable, and highly inclusive nation.
