Operation Sasamaki, led by the Fiji Police Force, is making notable strides in the fight against drug cultivation, having recently seized over 31,000 marijuana plants in the tikina of Ono on Kadavu Island. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed that the operation is part of a sustained effort to identify the owners of these farms implicated in the large drug finds.
In a related operation, authorities arrested a 19-year-old man linked to nearly 4,000 marijuana plants found on a farm in the tikina of Yale. This increased vigilance reflects a comprehensive strategy to dismantle illegal drug networks throughout Fiji. Police efforts are now extending to inter-island vessels in Suva, leading to further raids and arrests bolstered by K9 officers who are helping to detect illicit substances.
The police are actively addressing drug offenses across various regions as part of their ongoing operations, which include snap roadblocks and patrols in difficult terrains. Commissioner Tudravu expressed high morale among the officers, reiterating their commitment to eradicating drug networks to protect future generations. He stated, “We will not stop…as long as it’s deemed illegal, we are coming after you,” indicating that the force remains resolute and proactive despite challenges.
Tudravu emphasized the importance of community support in maintaining the momentum against illegal drugs, whether green or white. The ongoing police operations not only demonstrate a firm stand against drug-related activities but also signify a growing partnership with the community, which is crucial in building safer neighborhoods. This united effort between law enforcement and citizens serves as a positive example of cooperation aimed at achieving a drug-free Fiji, instilling hope for a healthier future for all its citizens.
