The Fiji National Security and Defence Review (NSDR) aims to provide a strategic framework for Fiji as it faces various complex challenges to its sovereignty and stability. During the NSDR’s launch at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua highlighted that today’s security landscape includes threats such as cybercrime, climate change, transnational crime, and geopolitical pressures.

Tikoduadua emphasized the need for Fiji to be agile and proactive in addressing these issues. A key aspect of the review is the promotion of a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to security. In this approach, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Police Force are essential, but they must collaborate with other government bodies, civil society, and the private sector. He stated, “National security is not the responsibility of a single entity—it is a shared responsibility that touches all of us.”

The editorial team that contributed to the NSDR includes Professor Satish Chand (Chair), Associate Professor Shailendra Singh, Assistant Professor Ana Rokomokoti, and independent lead Jim Sanday. The review will gather primary data through consultations with communities, alongside inputs from government and civil society.
