Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that Fiji’s Foreign Policy Water Paper represents a comprehensive approach that unifies all aspects of both domestic and external policy.
During his address in Parliament, Rabuka emphasized the importance of having a clear understanding of Fiji’s national interests and values to ensure security and prosperity. He stated that the policy outlines how Fiji perceives itself and intends to interact with the global community. One of the significant initiatives mentioned is the promotion of the Ocean of Peace, which Rabuka described as Fiji’s most important contribution to peace and security in the region and the broader Indo-Pacific area.
The Prime Minister noted that the White Paper articulates Fiji’s identity and core values, effectively defining who the nation is and what it stands for. He further explained that the document details the Government’s strategy for implementing Fiji’s foreign policy, including the necessary systems and resources to support a cohesive governmental approach.
Rabuka also pointed out that the White Paper is incorporated into Chapter 3 of Fiji’s National Development Plan and serves as a recommended response to the ongoing National Security and Defence Review. He stated that these elements collectively form the basis of the Government’s strategy to promote Fiji’s strategic and economic priorities while enhancing social unity.
