Fiji’s newly introduced Foreign Policy White Paper emphasizes the importance of advancing development assistance through enhanced multilateral and bilateral relationships with Pacific nations and global partners. This commitment was reiterated by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua, during a farewell meeting with Gaël Sánchez Cano, the Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Spain in Fiji, who is wrapping up his diplomatic mission.
Qereqeretabua highlighted the positions articulated in the Foreign Policy White Paper and the “Ocean of Peace” initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. She also reaffirmed Fiji’s dedication to collaborating with development partners across the Pacific to achieve shared objectives of economic prosperity, peace and security, and sustainable development.
In this context, she expressed a desire to explore further cooperation with Spain on topics of mutual interest. The Assistant Minister thanked Cano for his committed service to Fiji and wished him success in his future endeavors.
Cano praised Prime Minister Rabuka for the Ocean of Peace initiative and expressed Spain’s supportive stance towards this significant project. He also recognized the critical role of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper in providing clear guidance for advancing shared objectives and priorities.
