Nearly 15 stakeholders from the tourism sector have joined forces to raise over $100,000, along with media space and creative expertise, to support the launch of Tourism Fiji’s ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign aimed at promoting a litter-free environment in Fiji.
The campaign emerged from discussions at the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention and is spearheaded by prominent establishments including the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Rosie Holidays, and Ahura Resorts.
The ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign is designed to encourage both Fijians and visitors to dispose of waste responsibly, either by using available bins or by storing waste in a bag until it can be disposed of properly.
Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill expressed enthusiasm for the launch, stating, “We are thrilled to launch the ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign alongside our dedicated partners. This initiative embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism practices and highlights the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding Fiji’s environment. As we roll out this initiative, we encourage all Fijians and visitors to embrace the ethos of ‘Bin it or Bag it’.”
The campaign aims to preserve the natural beauty of Fiji and hopes to spark an important conversation and community movement towards a litter-free mindset.
In collaboration with local talents, including musician Kuki and creative designer Studio Lily Kate, along with Tourism Fiji’s creative agency Havas, the campaign features a lively jingle and distinctively Fijian illustrations. A notable aspect of the campaign is ‘Kasikasi’, a character created for the illustrations, expected to become a recognizable figure advocating for responsible waste management.
