Fiji’s Health Ministry is prioritizing the enhancement of digital infrastructure to ensure that even the most remote healthcare facilities can access reliable, high-speed connectivity. During the recent Pacific Health Information Network Meeting held in Nadi, Dr. Jemesa Tudravu, the Permanent Secretary for Health, discussed vital network improvements aimed at enabling real-time data sharing and supporting telehealth initiatives.
Dr. Tudravu highlighted that achieving sustainable progress in digital health requires continuous investments in essential foundational areas. He urged, “Our governments and development partners must prioritize investment in these areas, guaranteeing that digital health interventions align with national standards and health priorities.” This approach reflects a commitment to enhancing interoperability and fostering collaboration among stakeholders in the healthcare sector.
In tandem with these digital health advancements, the Health Ministry has endorsed two key information technology policies focused on hardware use. Dr. Tudravu stressed the need for further policy development, particularly regarding the establishment of clear guidelines for data privacy, security, and interoperability—critical elements for the successful implementation of a national digital health strategy.
The Pacific Health Information Network Meeting brought together representatives from various nations, including Cook Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Tonga, with the goal of promoting a unified approach toward sustainable health information systems and data-driven policies.
