The Fijian government is set to review the Poverty Alleviation Eradication Strategy Framework established in 1999, which was developed collaboratively by both state and non-state entities. The aim of this review is to better address the root causes of poverty within Fiji, improving coordination and technical support for various poverty alleviation initiatives across the nation.

In addition to this significant review, the government has also approved the International Visitor Survey (IVS) reports for 2019, 2022, and 2023. It’s important to note that there were no reports for the years 2020 and 2021, largely due to the border closures enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The IVS provides essential insights into the tourism sector in Fiji, encompassing visitor demographics, reasons for travel, length of stay, travel arrangements, spending habits, and overall impressions of the country. These insights are vital for informing policy decisions and strategic planning within the tourism industry, which is a crucial sector for Fiji’s economy.

This dual approach of enhancing poverty strategy measures while boosting tourism indicates the government’s commitment to sustainable economic growth and social development in Fiji. As the world rebounds from the pandemic, such initiatives could pave the way for a brighter future by improving living standards and revitalizing the economy.

Moreover, the review of poverty strategies is hopeful, as past iterations emphasized community involvement and local empowerment, which could lead to more effective and sustainable solutions in the long run.
