The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji took significant enforcement actions last year to enhance road safety, canceling 150 driver licenses as part of its ongoing efforts. Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa highlighted the authority’s commitment by noting that around 2,500 show cause proceedings were conducted in 2024, leading to 2,350 drivers receiving final warnings.
In the two months of this year alone, the LTA has already canceled and suspended 11 driver’s licenses, further emphasizing its intent to promote responsible driving behaviors. To complement these enforcement measures, the LTA is investing in portable speed cameras aimed at improving compliance with road safety regulations.
Rokosawa indicated that the stringent measures are necessary to cultivate good driving behavior throughout drivers’ journeys. He noted that the authority’s proactive approach extends beyond penalties, emphasizing education through the completion of nearly 800 show cause proceedings across its 25 branches.
These efforts reflect a hopeful commitment to reduce traffic-related incidents and promote accountability among drivers. By holding offenders responsible for their actions, the LTA aspires to create a safer driving environment not only for individual drivers but for the broader community as well.
