Authorities are raising concerns about underage girls allegedly sharing nude images for commercial purposes on the Telegram application. Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, announced that this issue is a priority for the Anti-Pornography Task Force.

Tabuya mentioned that banning Telegram in Fiji is being considered as part of their efforts to protect children from pornography. She noted that another possibility could involve prohibiting all social media access for individuals under 16 years old.

Currently, many of the reported cases concerning children focus on child neglect. Tabuya pointed out that neglect often stems from children being left to manage their devices without proper supervision, leading to excessive screen time as both children and parents engage with their gadgets. This situation has resulted in children becoming less productive and failing to focus on necessary daily activities.

Moreover, Tabuya remarked on the pressing issue of cyberbullying and online harassment that many children face, highlighting the significance of addressing these challenges to ensure a safer online environment for young users.

This initiative by the government reflects a growing acknowledgment of the challenges posed by digital interactions among youth and a commitment to enhancing child safety in the digital age. By implementing protective measures, the hope is to create a more supportive and secure environment for children as they navigate their formative years, particularly in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Summary: Reports have emerged about underage girls sharing nude images on Telegram, prompting officials to consider banning the app and social media access for those under 16. Concerns also exist around child neglect and cyberbullying, highlighting the need for comprehensive protective measures for youth.
