Police have reported a significant crackdown on marijuana cultivation in Fiji as part of Operation Sasamaki. In the first half of this month alone, close to three tonnes of marijuana plants were confiscated, indicating a serious commitment to addressing drug issues in the region.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed that the estimated street value of these seized drugs is in the millions. The operations have specifically focused on Kadavu, where authorities raided fifteen marijuana farms, resulting in seven arrests, including a village chief, or Turaga ni Koro, who currently remains in custody.

“I am committed to addressing the drug situation by disrupting the supply chain at its source. I instructed our team to proactively pursue the suppliers and cultivators rather than waiting for information, applying pressure to those involved,” stated Commissioner Tudravu. His firm approach underlines the urgency of the situation and the need for decisive action against drug-related crimes.

In addition to the raids in Kadavu, law enforcement has reported thirty arrests related to drug activities throughout the month, showcasing an ongoing commitment to dismantling drug networks across Fiji. This reflects a broader strategy shared by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Livai Driu, who previously highlighted the importance of community cooperation and intelligence-sharing in these operations.

These recent advancements signify a collective effort to combat drug issues and enhance community safety. The proactive measures not only aim to eliminate illegal drug cultivation but also work towards fostering a more secure environment for all citizens. With sustained cooperation between the police and the community, there is optimism for a future with reduced drug-related crime.
