The Fiji National Security and Defence Review (NSDR) has been introduced as a strategic framework aimed at helping Fiji confront various complex issues that pose risks to its sovereignty and stability. During the NSDR’s launch at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua highlighted the modern security landscape, which is challenged by cyber threats, climate change, transnational crime, and geopolitical pressures. He emphasized the need for Fiji to be agile and proactive in responding to these challenges.
The review advocates for a comprehensive approach to security that involves the entire government and society. It outlines the essential roles of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Police Force, which must collaborate with other government entities, civil society groups, and the private sector to ensure national security. Tikoduadua stressed that national security is a collective responsibility that involves everyone.
The Editorial Board involved in the development of this review includes Professor Satish Chand (Chair), Associate Professor Shailendra Singh, Assistant Professor Ana Rokomokoti, and NSDR Independent lead Jim Sanday. Information gathered through consultations with communities, alongside government and civil society input, will form the basis of the NSDR.
