Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe has eased concerns regarding security during the week-long destruction of 4.5 tonnes of methamphetamine at the Dignified Crematorium in Nausori. With a strong presence of both police and military personnel, the area is being closely monitored to ensure public safety throughout the operation.
SSP Vusonilawe reassured the community that there were no current security threats. He stated, “We don’t have any security threats at the moment… I want to assure the public that the area is secure,” emphasizing the comprehensive security measures that were put in place two days prior to the destruction, continuing from 8 am to 5 pm each day.
The operation, carried out under strict guidelines following a High Court order, has been meticulously planned to prevent any interference. In past reports, it has been noted that similar operations, such as the destruction of 4.15 tonnes of methamphetamine, have adhered to tight security protocols. These measures include the use of controlled incineration, recognized globally as a safe method for drug disposal.
The collaborative efforts of Fiji’s law enforcement, including consultations with international agencies, underscore a united front against drug trafficking, which promotes a sense of shared responsibility among various stakeholders. This not only demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to eradicating dangerous substances but also symbolizes hope for a community striving for safety and health.
The ongoing destruction of these drugs represents a significant stride in the battle against drug-related crime in Fiji, fostering public confidence in law enforcement. Through this endeavor, the Fijian authorities aim to not only eliminate a substantial threat but also reinforce an overarching commitment to the well-being of all citizens, contributing to a healthier future for the community.
