Fiji’s Bold Move: $200M Ahead for Vanua Levu’s Tourism Boom!

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, emphasized the Government’s commitment to developing Vanua Levu, acknowledging its significant potential and distinct appeal. During the launch of the Damodar City Labasa Hotel Brand, Gavoka announced that, with the backing of the World Bank, the Government will invest $200 million in the North as part of the Vanua Levu Tourism Development Programme.

He stated that $61.5 million will be allocated to address growth barriers such as transport, infrastructure, essential services, and the underdeveloped private sector. The Government is dedicated to fostering developments that align with broader objectives, ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth that benefits the entire community.

Gavoka also pointed out that Fiji’s economy is heavily dependent on tourism within the services sector, indicating the necessity for a significant increase in this area beyond the current three percent figure.
