The FIJI Water Flying Fijians have made significant changes to their starting lineup for their upcoming Europe Tour match against Spain this weekend, with eleven new players set to take the field. Only four members from the team that clinched a 24-19 victory against Wales in Cardiff on Monday will remain in the starting lineup: prop Eroni Mawi, versatile player Caleb Muntz, captain Waisea Nayacalevu, and winger Jiuta Wainiqolo.
Head Coach Mick Byrne explained that the changes are necessary due to several players facing injuries, prompting a strategic reshuffle as they prepare for what promises to be an intense match against the Spaniards. In the front row, Sam Matavesi and Luke Tagi will take charge, while Mesake Vocevoce and Ratu Leone Ratuisolia will form a new locking partnership.
Saimoni Uluinakauvadra, hailing from Vanualevu, will make his Test debut as openside flanker. He will be joined by Vilive Miramira at blindside and Albert Tuisue, who will wear the number eight jersey. Simi Kuruvoli will step in as scrum-half, partnering with flyhalf Caleb Muntz. Nayacalevu will transition to inside centre, and Sireli Maqala will take up the number 13 position.
New talent Ponipate Loganimasi will start at blindside wing, with Wainiqolo on the opposite wing and Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula at fullback. A solid bench consisting of Mesulame Dolokoto, Haereiti Hetet, Jone Koroiduadua, Temo Mayanavanua, Elia Canakaivata, Peni Matawalu, Vilimoni Botitu, and Inia Tabuavou is set to provide depth and impact.
The match will take place at Estadio Jose Zorrilla on Sunday at 2 AM, and fans are hopeful for an exciting performance from the Flying Fijians as they continue to showcase their talent on the international stage.
Overall, this reshuffling not only highlights the depth of talent within the Fijian squad but also inspires excitement as new players make their mark. The commitment to development and resilience in the face of challenges is commendable and sets a positive tone for future matches.
