The Telecommunications Authority of Fiji (TAF) marked a significant milestone at Tanoa Plaza, Suva, with the unveiling of its inaugural Five-Year Strategic Plan covering the period from 2025 to 2029.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, served as the chief guest at the launch, which highlighted four fundamental pillars: Regulatory Effectiveness, Service Delivery, Advocacy, and Financial Sustainability. These pillars are supported by strategic enablers that emphasize People and Governance, Processes, and Technology.
The strategic plan aims to bridge the digital divide, ignite innovation, and bolster Fiji’s status as an ICT hub in the Pacific region. In his remarks, Mr. Kamikamica emphasized that this initiative demonstrates TAF’s commitment to enhancing the telecommunications sector and embodies a vision of a digitally connected Fiji, where technology and opportunities are accessible to all citizens.
He expressed confidence that TAF would work closely with essential stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the plan, which focuses on regulatory excellence, improved service delivery, community advocacy, and achieving financial sustainability—elements that align with the government’s vision for a digitally inclusive and empowered Fiji.
TAF Chairman David Eyre elaborated on the organization’s ambitious journey towards a digitally inclusive future, expressing optimism about the transformative changes the plan is expected to bring to Fiji and the Pacific. He noted the importance of stakeholder support in turning envisioned goals into tangible benefits for the people of Fiji.
TAF’s CEO, Prit Chand, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the clear and actionable roadmap provided by the strategic plan, which aligns decision-making with long-term objectives, promotes resource management, and encourages innovation to address emerging challenges.
This initiative is a hopeful step towards a digitally inclusive future for Fiji, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to providing equitable access to technology and enhancing overall economic growth. The active collaboration between TAF and stakeholders is anticipated to yield measurable impacts for all Fijians, fostering a robust telecommunications landscape that supports innovation and connectivity.
In summary, the launch of the Five-Year Strategic Plan by TAF signifies a commitment to not just a better telecommunications environment, but also to a more inclusive and technologically advanced Fiji.
