Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka has emphasized the Government’s dedication to developing Vanua Levu, highlighting its significant potential and unique appeal. During the launch of the Damodar City Labasa Hotel Brand, Gavoka announced a $200 million investment in the Northern region through the Vanua Levu Tourism Development Programme, supported by the World Bank.
He noted that $61.5 million of this funding will address growth barriers such as transportation, infrastructure, and essential services, while also supporting the private sector. Gavoka reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to fostering developments that align with broader goals, aiming for growth that is sustainable, inclusive, and beneficial to the entire community.
He further pointed out that Fiji’s economy heavily depends on tourism and the services sector, stressing the need to significantly boost the current tourism contribution.
