Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that Fiji’s Foreign Policy Water Paper embraces a comprehensive national approach, incorporating all aspects of both domestic and international policy.
During a speech in Parliament, Rabuka emphasized that the policy underscores the importance of understanding Fiji’s national interests and values in relation to achieving security and prosperity.
He elaborated on how the policy articulates Fiji’s self-perception and its intended presentation on the global stage. One of the notable initiatives mentioned is the promotion of the Ocean of Peace, which Rabuka identified as Fiji’s most significant contribution to peace and security within its neighborhood and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
The Prime Minister remarked that the White Paper articulates Fiji’s identity and core values, effectively defining the nation and its beliefs.
Rabuka further explained that the document outlines the government’s strategy for executing Fiji’s foreign policy, detailing the necessary systems and resources to facilitate a unified government effort.
He pointed out that the White Paper aligns with Chapter 3 of Fiji’s National Development Plan and serves as a response to the ongoing National Security and Defence Review.
According to Rabuka, these elements collectively create a solid foundation for the government’s strategy aimed at enhancing Fiji’s strategic and economic interests while simultaneously reinforcing social cohesion.
