The Ministry of Finance of Fiji is reinforcing its commitment to international peacekeeping, particularly in light of ongoing challenges in the Middle East and beyond. To support these vital efforts, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces has been allocated a budget of $168 million as part of the 2025-2026 National Budget. This allocation includes a significant $52 million specifically earmarked for overseas peacekeeping missions.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, also highlighted the importance of diplomatic support, announcing an increase in post allowances for Fijian diplomats stationed across 13 foreign missions, totaling $8.4 million. Notably, these allowances have not been reviewed since 2005, underscoring the government’s recognition of the enhanced responsibilities faced by its diplomatic personnel.

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to receive $51 million in funding, which includes plans for securing a new Fiji House in Wellington, New Zealand, with a dedicated budget of approximately $2.7 million. The budget further extends to Fiji’s ongoing contribution towards the construction of the new Pacific Community Building in Suva, with $1.9 million allocated as part of a larger commitment endorsed by the Cabinet for a total of $3.7 million.

These budget measures reflect a strategic approach not only in maintaining Fiji’s role in international peacekeeping but also in improving diplomatic facilities and services, essential for enhancing the nation’s global standing. Amid fluctuating global circumstances, such commitments usher in a hopeful outlook for Fiji, demonstrating proactive efforts to safeguard both national interests and broader international stability.

This budget initiative showcases the government’s emphasis on resilience and cooperation, which could pave the way for a more stable and flourishing Fiji on the global stage.
