Fiji’s Blueprint for Prosperity: Unveiling the National Development Plan 2025-2029

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica has stated that both current and future generations in Fiji will experience improved economic growth and increased prosperity thanks to the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, which is intended to drive transformation across the nation.

Kamikamica emphasized that the plan allows every citizen, regardless of their background, to contribute to and gain from the country’s advancements. During the launch event for the NDP held in Suva, he shared the government’s vision encapsulated in the phrase, “Empowering the People of Fiji through Unity,” which he described as central to Fiji’s national goals.

He reiterated the importance of creating an environment where every citizen has the chance to participate in and benefit from national progress, highlighting the careful consideration that went into establishing the foundational elements to guide Fiji’s forthcoming development.

The National Development Plan is structured around three main pillars:
1. Economic Resilience – A commitment to diversifying the economy through innovation, research, and technology to withstand future economic challenges.
2. People Empowerment – Addressing development disparities to ensure every Fijian has access to essential services and is actively engaged in nation-building.
3. Good Governance – Promoting accountability, transparency, and the rule of law to preserve democratic values.

Kamikamica pointed out that the NDP is aligned with international and regional commitments, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.

The plan highlights Fiji’s dedication to regional leadership and aims to position the nation as a key commercial and trade hub in the Pacific. He further stated that while the National Development Plan will provide a roadmap for Fiji’s development, its successful execution relies on the active involvement of all Fijians.
