Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, announced that Fiji’s current and future generations are set to benefit from enhanced economic growth and prosperity through the National Development Plan (NDP) 2025-2029, which aims to act as a catalyst for transformation.
Kamikamica emphasized that this initiative allows all citizens, regardless of their backgrounds, to contribute to and gain from the nation’s progress. During the launch of the NDP in Suva, he articulated the government’s vision of “Empowering the People of Fiji through Unity,” highlighting its significance in addressing Fiji’s national aspirations.
He stated, “It reflects our commitment to fostering a sense of shared purpose, where every citizen, regardless of background, has the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from the nation’s progress.” The Minister pointed out that establishing the foundational pillars for driving Fiji’s next development phase was a careful consideration.
The NDP is built on three main pillars:
1. Economic Resilience – A commitment to diversifying the economy through innovation, research, and technology, ensuring resilience against future economic challenges.
2. People Empowerment – Addressing development disparities to guarantee all Fijians have access to essential services and encouraging active participation in nation-building.
3. Good Governance – Promoting accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law to uphold democracy.
The Plan is in line with global and regional objectives, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. It reinforces Fiji’s dedication to regional leadership and positions the country as a key Pacific hub for commerce and trade.
Kamikamica concluded by affirming that the National Development Plan will serve as a roadmap for Fiji’s upcoming development phase, with its successful execution reliant on the collective effort of all Fijians.
