Eight members of the national men’s sevens extended squad have been chosen to represent the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament taking place next week. The selection was made by head coach Osea Kolinisau.
The selected players are Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu. They will join notable players such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, USA’s Matai Leuta, and Rosko Specman.
Jay Whyte, chairman of the tournament organising committee, shared that the Mike Friday Select 7s team is a fresh addition to this year’s tournament lineup. He also announced that Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France will be part of the team, further enhancing the tournament’s international appeal.
The eight players are looking to make a strong impression at the tournament in hopes of being included in the men’s squad for the upcoming HSBC SVSN Perth sevens tournament scheduled for January 24-26.
The three-day Coral Coast 7s will take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, promising an exciting showcase of talent.
This selection not only highlights the depth of talent in Fiji’s rugby sevens program but also offers these athletes a significant opportunity to demonstrate their skills on an international stage.
