Fiji’s France Catarogo netted a hat-trick as the team dominated Papua New Guinea 4-0, securing third place in the OFC Beach Soccer Men’s Nations Cup held in Honiara.
The match marked a significant turnaround for Fiji, who had previously lost to Papua New Guinea 8-2 in their first-ever international Beach Soccer encounter. In that match, Fiji was without captain Tevita Waranaivalu and key player Madhwan Gounder, who arrived late.
The scoring began in the 8th minute with Northland Tailevu’s Steven Dean, who opened Fiji’s account. Catarogo quickly added to the tally, scoring in the 16th minute. He continued his scoring streak with two more goals in the 22nd and 34th minutes, sealing a decisive victory for Fiji.
