Fiji’s Basketball Star Shines at High-Performance Camp!

Fijian captain Estelle Kainamoli is making waves after guiding her team to a silver medal at the 2023 Pacific Games for the 3×3 basketball event. Currently, Kainamoli is attending the first-ever FIBA 3×3 High-Performance Camp in Gold Coast, Australia, as part of FIBA Oceania’s initiative to promote “Women in Basketball.”

This camp has gathered over 70 female athletes from 15 national federations throughout the Pacific, focusing on enhancing both basketball skills and personal development. Kainamoli expressed her enthusiasm for the experience, stating, “The camp has been a great experience. I’ve learned so much, not just about basketball, but also about mental health, nutrition, and emotional well-being.”

Fiji’s contingent at the camp includes coach Sera Vugakoto, along with players Camari Ravai, Ranadi Koroi, Moana Liebregts, and referee Ella Koroi. The initiative aims to advance the 3×3 discipline, recognized as the fastest-growing urban sport globally.

As a third-year university student, Kainamoli is thrilled about the future of 3×3 basketball in the Pacific. She remarked, “3×3 is a great sport for us because it’s easier to form teams. It’s fast-paced and unpredictable, which adds excitement.” Looking ahead, Kainamoli and her teammates are targeting the 2025 Mini Games in Palau, where they aim to secure a gold medal.
