Fiji’s Baby Pearls under-21 netball team is gearing up for the Ruby North Series in Australia later this month, and head coach Simone Nalatu has expressed her delight at the team’s noticeable improvement since their last meeting earlier this year. Supported by former Australian Diamonds player Joanne Morgan, who assisted during last week’s training sessions, Nalatu has witnessed significant advancements in the players’ fitness, skill execution, and game understanding.

“It’s encouraging and timely,” The coach noted regarding the team’s progress. “There’s lots of improvements both individually and across the team, and certainly the polish is starting to come, which is different from when I was here in February.” As the Baby Pearls strive to maintain their momentum, Nalatu highlighted the necessity for the players to build on their current pace.

The Ruby North Series, scheduled from April 23 to 28, will be crucial for the team as they prepare for the Youth World Cup set to take place in Gibraltar later this year. The series will present an important platform for developing the players’ skills while gaining valuable competitive experience.

In previous training sessions, the Baby Pearls have worked on honing their team dynamics and individual skills in preparation for this significant international competition. The collaboration with experienced coaching staff and training alongside club teams reflects the team’s dedication to emerging as strong competitors on the world stage.

The anticipation surrounding this young talent illustrates a growing recognition of netball in Fiji, showcasing a hopeful outlook for the future of the sport. With a mix of hard work, commitment, and new strategies being implemented, the Baby Pearls are poised to inspire future generations of athletes while leaving a mark in international netball competitions.
