As the Fiji Baby Pearls prepare for the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar, their focus has shifted to mental readiness, a key factor as they embark on this international journey. Under the leadership of Captain Nina Nakula, the team has emphasized the importance of mental resilience due to the challenging opponents they will face in the pool games. Having already spent considerable time in training camps to build their physical strength, the team is confident in their physical preparedness, thus allowing them to now focus on mental strategies.

The Baby Pearls, guided by coach Simone Nalatu, have undergone intensive preparations to ensure a competitive showing. Their training regimen has included intense gym work, on-court practice sessions, and strategic scrimmages with other under-21 teams and Fiji’s Men’s netball team. These efforts are geared towards enhancing the team’s speed, decision-making skills, and on-court chemistry. The inclusion of overseas-based players is expected to bring an additional layer of depth and experience to the squad, positioning them well for their competitive challenges.

The team departed for Gibraltar over the weekend and is set to play their first pool game against Trinidad and Tobago. Their pool game lineup includes formidable teams such as South Africa, Malawi, and Barbados, reflecting the high caliber of international youth netball competition they will face. These matches present both a daunting challenge and a significant opportunity for the Baby Pearls to highlight Fijian netball talent on an international stage.

Throughout their preparations, the Baby Pearls have also engaged in community activities, reflecting their commitment to inspiring the next generation of Fijian netball players. This outreach has included netball clinics and grassroots engagement which not only supports local communities but also helps the team connect with the sport’s foundational roots in Fiji.

The Baby Pearls aim to provide a standout performance at the World Cup, not only to achieve sporting success but also to elevate the profile of netball in Fiji. Their journey serves as a beacon of passion and dedication, inspiring young athletes and underscoring the growing potential of youth netball in Fiji.
