Fiji’s Baby Bula Boys Make History with FIFA U-17 World Cup Qualification!

The Digicel Fiji Baby Bula Boys have secured their spot in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar next year. This achievement came after Fiji triumphed over Tahiti with a score of 2-1 in the semi-final of the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship held in Papeete.

This marks Fiji’s first appearance in the final of the tournament in 25 years, where they will compete against New Zealand, a dominant force in Oceania. The last time Fiji reached the final was in 1999 when they faced Australia.

Veleni Rasorewa was instrumental in Fiji’s victory, scoring both goals that led the team to the final of the OFC Men’s Championship. His spectacular first goal came in the seventh minute when he skillfully maneuvered past two defenders and slotted the ball past Tahiti’s goalkeeper, Keahi Tenania.

Three minutes later, Tenania was forced to make another save when Maika Dau came close to doubling Fiji’s lead with a free kick. Although Tahiti attempted to push forward and created some promising chances in the first half, they were unable to penetrate Fiji’s resolute defense.

At halftime, Fiji maintained a 1-0 lead. The second half saw Tahiti launching relentless attacks in search of an equalizer. However, Fiji’s Rasorewa was too quick for Tahiti’s defenders, as he scored again in the 68th minute, giving Fiji a 2-0 advantage.

Tahiti managed to reduce the deficit with a deflected shot from outside the box that found its way into the net with 20 minutes remaining. Nevertheless, Fiji held on to secure the win and ensure their place in the final against New Zealand.
