The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) has assessed the aviation security threat on domestic flights as low, according to Rigamoto Aisake, CAAF’s executive manager for aviation security. During a recent meeting with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, Aisake explained that security screenings are mandated at Nadi and Nausori airports but may not be necessary at smaller locations like Labasa Airport due to negligible threat levels.

Aisake emphasized the importance of intelligence and collaborative efforts with the Fiji Police Force to determine areas that require security scrutiny. He noted that the allocation of resources is strategically managed, ensuring they are directed towards locations that present actual risks to flight safety.

In relation to aviation security, Aisake pointed out recent inquiries regarding security measures for various domestic airports, confirming that the risks in those areas have been deemed very low. This approach ensures that resources are not wasted on locations where security threats are minimal.

This insight into aviation security aligns with the ongoing efforts by authorities to enhance public safety measures amidst ongoing concerns about potential breaches in protocols, specifically regarding claims of firearms being transported by influential individuals. Aisake’s remarks underscore the need for accurate documentation and intelligence reporting to effectively address security challenges, ensuring a safer travel environment for all.

As the aviation sector in Fiji continues to prioritize safety through intelligence-driven processes, there is a positive outlook for maintaining secure and efficient air travel, fostering confidence for both residents and visitors alike.
