Fiji is on a promising path to enhancing its economy by nurturing a robust audio-visual industry, which also stands to benefit various sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and local service providers. This potential was articulated by Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica during the Film Fiji Industry Connect event held in Suva.

Kamikamica pointed out the significant contribution of Film Fiji to the nation’s economic landscape. In the previous financial year, Fiji successfully hosted film and television productions from 11 different countries, generating between $255 million and $260 million in new economic activity. This influx of productions provided jobs for nearly 1,300 Fijians and engaged 282 local service providers, underscoring the substantial economic impact of the audio-visual sector.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed aspirations for Fiji to attract more international productions, similar to the hit show “Love Island,” while also fostering opportunities for local filmmakers. He emphasized the government’s commitment to harnessing the transformative potential of the audio-visual industry, noting collaborative efforts with the Immigration Department to streamline work permit processes.

The government is dedicated to facilitating an environment that supports local filmmakers, enabling them to push the creative boundaries of their work and realize their full potential.

As Fiji embarks on this journey, the growth of the audio-visual industry presents a hopeful outlook for economic diversification and job creation, paving the way for an enriched cultural landscape and greater opportunities for all Fijians.

Overall, this endeavor highlights not only the economic benefits but also the cultural enrichment that the audio-visual sector can bring to the vibrant nation of Fiji.
