Athletics Fiji is appealing for community support to raise funds necessary for athlete levies ahead of the Pacific Mini Games, set to take place in Palau from June 29 to July 9, 2025. Each athlete is required to pay a levy of $3,000 to represent Fiji, a challenge that has prompted significant fundraising efforts.
Development Chief Fesaitu Mario elaborated that to ease the financial burden on athletes and ensure they can focus on training, the organization has been actively conducting fundraising events in recent weeks. He expressed gratitude to those who have already contributed while emphasizing the importance of reducing financial pressures on athletes.
The collective fundraising landscape reflects a broader trend within Fiji’s sports community. Federations across the nation are not only working to meet financial demands but are also fostering a spirit of unity and pride as they prepare their athletes for international competition. For example, previous initiatives by Athletics Fiji have included a lottery campaign aimed at increasing funding. The positive community response is indicative of the public’s commitment to supporting these athletes.
Mario also highlighted their aspirations to turn these fundraising events into annual initiatives, ensuring ongoing support for athletes who face similar costs in future competitions. This proactive approach not only aims to alleviate immediate financial pressures but also seeks to lay the groundwork for sustainable support that nurtures athletic talent in the long term.
As Team Fiji gears up for the Pacific Mini Games, it carries the hopes of the nation, showcasing the resilience and determination of its athletes harnessed through community support. There is a hopeful outlook that with collective efforts, Fiji’s representatives will shine brightly on the international stage and enhance the nation’s pride in sports.
