Team Fiji is actively fundraising to secure $3.5 million to cover the costs for sending athletes and officials to the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau, which is set to commence on June 29, 2025. Chef de Mission Josaia Tuinamata announced that national federations are in the final stages of confirming which athletes will participate, with allocations expected to finalize this week.

To help raise funds, Team Fiji has initiated a lottery campaign, selling tickets for just $2 each, with each ticket book containing 15 tickets. A total of 4,500 ticket books have been printed, and the lottery is scheduled to close on June 2, with the draw taking place on June 13. The funds generated from this lottery will be critical in meeting the $3,000 levy per athlete needed to facilitate their participation.

Tuinaamta mentioned that while some federations have successfully raised funds for their athletes through various means, others still require support. Thus, Team Fiji is encouraging community involvement by having federations distribute ticket books to athletes and their networks for sale.

To ensure a smooth travel experience, athletes and officials will be flying on a chartered flight to Palau two days prior to the opening ceremony. Team Fiji is looking to compete in 12 sports at the Mini Games, which includes archery, athletics, baseball, beach volleyball, and swimming, among others.

The Pacific Mini Games is more than a competition; it represents a significant opportunity for Fiji’s athletes to showcase their talents and hard work on an international platform, while fostering a sense of national pride. Community support and involvement will be crucial in enabling the dreams of these athletes and enhancing Fiji’s presence within regional sports. With dedication and unity, there is much to be hopeful about as the event approaches.
