Fiji’s sole female archer, Chaandvi Prasad, is determined to set a new personal best at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau later this month. Despite her demanding schedule as a medical doctor, Prasad has been dedicated to her training regimen, managing to practice both in Labasa and at home when necessary.

Maintaining consistent communication with her coach online has been crucial for her progress. “I send him videos, and he guides me through them,” she shared. Recently returning to Suva, she has resumed training with her team in preparation for the Games, expressing a strong commitment to improve after taking a six-month hiatus following her participation in the Paris Olympic Games.

Prasad aims for a score of 580 at the Mini Games, which she believes is achievable with the support of her family and coach, who encourage her hard work. She also emphasized the role of community support, thanking everyone involved with World Archery Fiji and those who participated in fundraising efforts, including the recent $3,000 levy she paid to compete.

Her passion is reflected in her experiences training under renowned coach Kim Hyung Tak in Korea. Prasad is also keen to share the valuable skills she learned during her Olympic preparation with her teammates, promoting a collective advancement in the sport.

On a broader scale, the upcoming Pacific Mini Games, set for June 29 to July 9, highlights the spirit and dedication of young athletes from Fiji across various sports, including archery. The teamwork and community support involved reflect a shared commitment to excellence, providing a bright outlook for Fiji’s representation on the international athletic stage.

The preparation of athletes like Prasad contributes significantly to the underlying hope and excitement for Fiji’s sporting future, showcasing the resilience and ambition within its sports community.
