Angeline Rekha, a talented defender from Fiji, has made a significant step in her career by signing a professional contract with Western Springs in New Zealand. At just 20 years of age, she not only captained the Young Kulas but also currently represents Rewa in domestic competitions. Rekha is set to officially join her new team starting on February 1, 2025.
Recognized for her exceptional skills, including robust tackling, aerial ability, and strong leadership, Rekha stands out as one of Fiji’s best defenders. Her recent trials with Wellington Phoenix, an A-League club, in October 2023, highlight her connection with New Zealand football.
In addition to Rekha’s achievement, fellow former Fiji U20 Captain Adi Litia Bakaniceva and teammate Maria Veronica have also secured professional contracts, teaming up with Hekari United, a top club in Papua New Guinea.
These developments reflect a bright future for Fijian women in football, showcasing the growing opportunities for female athletes in the sport.
This trend not only emphasizes the rising talent in Fiji but also paves the way for more female players to pursue professional careers internationally. With Rekha and her teammates leading the way, the future of women’s football in the Pacific region looks promising.
