Angeline Rekha, a talented defender from Fiji’s national women’s football team, has officially signed a professional contract with Western Springs in New Zealand. The 20-year-old, who previously captained the Young Kulas and currently plays for Rewa, will begin her journey with the club on February 1, 2025.

Rekha has made a name for herself through her excellent tackling abilities, aerial strength, and leadership skills, establishing her as one of Fiji’s most outstanding defensive players. She is not a newcomer to New Zealand football, having participated in trials with the Wellington Phoenix, an A-League club, in October 2023.

In addition to Rekha’s accomplishment, former Fiji U20 Captain Adi Litia Bakaniceva and Maria Veronica have also signed professional contracts, joining the top Papua New Guinea club Hekari United. This influx of talent into professional leagues underscores the growing opportunities for Fijian women in sports.

Rekha’s move is a significant step for her career and highlights the increasing recognition and support for women in football within the Pacific region. The aspirations of these athletes not only pave the way for their future but also inspire the next generation of female footballers from Fiji and beyond.
