Angeline Rekha, a skilled defender for the national women’s team, has agreed to a professional contract with Western Springs, a club based in New Zealand. At just 20 years old, Rekha, who previously captained the Young Kulas and currently plays for Rewa, will officially join her new team on February 1, 2025.
Recognized for her strong tackling abilities, aerial skills, and leadership, she has earned her place as one of Fiji’s top defenders. Rekha is familiar with New Zealand football, having attended trials with the Wellington Phoenix, an A-League club, in October 2023.
In addition, two other former Fiji U20 players, Adi Litia Bakaniceva and Maria Veronica, have also secured professional contracts, signing with the well-regarded Papua New Guinea club Hekari United. This signifies a growing recognition and opportunity for Fijian women’s footballers on the international stage.
