Fiji’s Agricultural Future: Could Nanotechnology Be the Key?

Fiji may soon adopt new nanomaterials and nanotechnology-based fertilizers from China, contingent on the results of ongoing trials, according to Sugar Industry Minister Charan Jeath Singh.

The minister recently met with a delegation from Shenzhen King Quenson Industry Company Limited at the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF) in Lautoka to discuss potential fertilizers aimed at enhancing sugar and agricultural production in the country.

“The new fertilizers will undergo rigorous testing by the SRIF to determine their effectiveness,” Minister Singh stated. “This is a serious approach to enhancing the industry’s output and sustainability.”

Shenzhen King Quenson Industry Company Limited is recognized as a leading agrochemical manufacturer in China.

“We are eager to collaborate and make the most of this opportunity,” said Vinesh Kumar, CEO of SRIF. “This innovative approach, based on nanomaterials and nanotechnology, offers a comprehensive solution for our agricultural needs.”

Trials for the fertilizer are currently being conducted on a low-production field in Rakiraki.

“In the coming months, we will gather sufficient data to establish the quality and effectiveness of the fertilizer proposed by Shenzhen King Quenson Industry,” Kumar added.
