The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team is gearing up for a rigorous tournament in Vancouver, where they will face tough competition in Pool C. This pool includes Spain, which recently secured third place in Perth, tying them with Fiji at 48 points. The line-up also includes Uruguay, a team that previously defeated Fiji 24-17 during pool play, along with the USA 7s.
Reflecting on Fiji’s performance in Perth, coach Osea Kolinisau emphasized the need for improvement in specific areas. He highlighted the importance of focusing on their breakdowns and ball retention. Despite being strong in possession, Kolinisau noted that the team’s offloads and passing techniques were an issue, advising against risky 50-50 passes. He mentioned that the team will also enhance their communication and fitness levels during the preparation period.
Recently returning from Perth, Fiji’s 7s squad is now looking ahead to optimize their strategies for upcoming matches. Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s team also competes in Pool C alongside France, Great Britain, and Japan. They placed ninth in the last tournament and hold a position of 11th overall with eight points from three tournaments.
With focused preparation and keen strategies, both Fiji teams are set to strive for better performances in their respective pools. This shows their determination to rise above previous challenges and make a mark in the upcoming tournament.
