The Fiji men’s rugby sevens team began their campaign at the HSBC SVNS Dubai tournament with a hard-fought victory against Spain, winning 21-15 at the Sevens Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
Fiji faced an early challenge when player Filipe Sauturaga received a yellow card, temporarily putting the team at a disadvantage. However, their strong defense held steady and contributed to securing the win.
Notably, the match marked an impressive debut for several new players on the Fiji squad, who played key roles in the victory by scoring all of the team’s three tries. Kavekini Tanivanuakula shined with two tries, one scored before the halftime break and another shortly after. George Bose added the decisive third try in the 11th minute of the match. Crucial conversions from Sauturaga, Terio Veilawa, and Joji Nasova were pivotal in putting points on the board.
