At just 22 years old, Nedley Neha Nand has achieved a remarkable milestone by graduating as a nurse, demonstrating both a clear sense of purpose and a heartfelt commitment to serving others. Ms. Nand celebrated her graduation last month at Fiji National University with a ceremony held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, marking the culmination of a journey marked by resilience, faith, and community support.

Growing up in Naitonitoni, Navua as an only child, Ms. Nand was enveloped in love and encouragement from her close-knit family. “Growing up as the only child and grandchild meant I was surrounded by constant love, encouragement, and guidance,” she shared. Raised in a Christian household, her upbringing instilled core values of discipline, humility, and compassion — virtues that were further reinforced by her community.

Inspired by her parents’ dedication to their work, Ms. Nand learned early on that hard work and faith can pave the way to achieving one’s dreams. Initially aspiring to be a science teacher, her career path shifted toward nursing after her mother highlighted the profound impact the profession has on individuals and communities. “As I learned more, something within me shifted,” said Ms. Nand. “I realized nursing would allow me to serve, uplift, and touch lives in ways that truly mattered.”

Her natural empathy and desire to help others made nursing a fitting choice for her. Throughout her studies, she developed essential skills to care with confidence, empathy, and discipline. “I chose nursing because it is more than a career. It is a calling that allows me to touch lives, inspire healing, and offer comfort and hope when people need it the most,” she stated.

The graduation ceremony held emotional significance for Ms. Nand, symbolizing both her personal accomplishments and her parents’ sacrifices. Looking to the future, she aims to specialize in mental health nursing and hopes to work as a psychiatric/mental health nurse within the next five years. “I hope to create safe and supportive spaces for individuals navigating mental health challenges, helping them feel heard, valued, and empowered,” she expressed.

Outside of her academic pursuits, music plays an essential role in Ms. Nand’s life, serving as her escape and source of comfort. She enjoys listening to music during her free time, which helps her unwind and reflect.

For aspiring nurses, her message is clear: “Nursing will challenge you, shape you, and reward you in ways you cannot imagine. Let your compassion guide you, embrace every learning experience, and remember that you are choosing a path that touches lives and uplifts communities, especially in a beautiful place like Fiji.”

Nedley Neha Nand’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of education and the profound impact of service in nursing, promising a hopeful future for both herself and the many lives she will touch in the years to come.
