Fiji is poised to experience a pivotal year, as noted by National Federation Party (NFP) Leader Professor Biman Prasad in his New Year’s address. He articulated that 2026 presents an opportunity to transform the nation into a beacon of hope and opportunity for every citizen.

Emphasizing the importance of present choices, Prof Prasad remarked that the decisions made today will define the legacy left for future generations. He affirmed that Fiji’s foundation rests upon values such as generosity, honesty, hard work, and dedication, highlighting the resilience of the Fijian people who are committed to shaping a brighter future.

“These principles are essential components of a true democracy,” he stated, acknowledging that while no one is perfect, including their party, criticism has occasionally been unwarranted. He reflected on the NFP’s pivotal role in the coalition government over the past three years, crediting the party with fostering a unified vision and a clear leadership approach.

Prof Prasad pointed out that the NFP has successfully addressed numerous contentious issues, including the restoration of fundamental rights and freedoms for media, civil servants, trade unions, and workers. He stressed that authentic leadership must be compassionate, equitable, and centered on the people’s best interests.

Looking forward, he affirmed the NFP’s commitment to uniting Fiji. The aspirations of social progress, economic growth, and political stability remain key objectives. Prof Prasad acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead but expressed confidence that when Fijians collaborate, no challenge is insurmountable.

He concluded by asserting that New Year’s Day is an occasion for celebration, reflection, and forward planning, urging all Fijians to embrace a spirit of optimism, unity, and shared responsibility as they embark on this promising journey together.
