The 2025 National Agriculture Show served as a vibrant gathering of Fiji’s farmers, stakeholders, and the public, celebrating the vital role of agriculture as the backbone of the nation’s economy. This year’s theme, “Be Resilient, Produce Smart, Go Local and Grow Agro-Tourism,” highlighted the importance of sustainable and innovative practices in enhancing food security and promoting agri-tourism.

The Agriculture Ministry acknowledged agriculture’s pivotal role, emphasizing that it extends beyond livelihood to form the foundation of food security and rural development in Fiji. Despite the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, volatile markets, and natural disasters, the agriculture sector continues to sustain families, create jobs, and significantly contribute to the national economy.

The annual event, held at Koroivolu Park in Nadi, has evolved into a crucial platform for showcasing the future of agriculture, celebrating innovations, and fostering collaboration among farmers, students, and various stakeholders. The show featured interactive exhibitions, live farming demonstrations, and a range of displays highlighting fresh local produce and innovative agribusiness concepts.

A key message reinforced during the event was the need to strengthen the synergy between agriculture and the tourism sector. The Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized the potential for Fiji to reduce its reliance on imported produce by promoting local offerings within the tourism industry. Highlighting initiatives like the “Farm to Fork” program, he illustrated an inspiring vision where tourists can enjoy local meats and produce, enhancing both the sustainability and appeal of Fiji’s tourism sector.

Past editions of the show, such as the 2024 event at Valelevu Grounds, have similarly underscored themes of resilience and innovation in climate-smart agriculture, aligning with Fiji’s strategic goals of strengthening food security and fostering rural economic growth. The 2025 event promises to continue this tradition, positioning Fiji as a leader in climate-smart agricultural practices by promoting local ingenuity and resilience.

In essence, the 2025 National Agriculture Show illuminates a hopeful path for Fiji’s agricultural future, emphasizing the importance of local production and sustainability, while reinforcing the sector’s capacity to adapt and thrive through collaboration, education, and innovation.
