Fijians are urged to participate in the 2024 Voter Perception Survey launched by the Fijian Elections Office (FEO). At the launch event held at Novotel Suva Lami Bay, Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa emphasized the importance of this initiative as a crucial step towards understanding and addressing the needs of citizens in a changing electoral environment.
Mataiciwa highlighted that the success of their initiatives hinges on the involvement and support of stakeholders, stating that real progress stems from these collaborative efforts to ensure electoral processes remain inclusive, transparent, and efficient. The survey aims to gather the opinions of Fijians from all over the country, including those living abroad, to gain insights into public perceptions and identify areas for improvement.
Barbara Malimali, chairwoman of the Electoral Commission, described the survey as more than just a procedural formality; she views it as a vital tool for transformation. The data collected will aid in making informed decisions to enhance the electoral system in Fiji. Malimali affirmed that the people’s voice is paramount in any democracy, serving as a measure of the electoral system’s health and highlighting areas that need attention. She reiterated that the survey is essential to ensure that elections in Fiji reflect the true will of the electorate.
The survey is anticipated to continue until October.
