“Fijians Urged to Embrace New Park’s Legacy”

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged all Fijians to take an active role in caring for the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which has been upgraded at a cost of $7 million.

At the park’s opening ceremony on Monday evening, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the significance of preserving the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations. He noted that the revamped park represents a departure from its original design, showcasing the nation’s progress and commitment to urban renewal.

“This newly upgraded park now boasts modern amenities including a new podium structure, designed night lights, contemporary park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and an enhanced landscape that harmonizes hardscapes with green spaces,” Mr. Kamikamica commented.

He further mentioned that a new water feature complements the Ratu Sukuna monument, contributing to the park’s serene atmosphere. “This park extends beyond a mere green area; it serves as an oasis amid our bustling city, offering peace, tranquility, creativity, and a fresh start. It is a space where everyone can pause, connect with loved ones, and chart new paths in life.”

Mr. Kamikamica emphasized that parks like Ratu Sukuna are vital to the health and well-being of communities. “They offer venues for families to gather, for children to play, and for individuals to find solace in nature. These areas enhance the livability of our cities, transforming them into places not only to work and reside but to flourish.”

He called for collective efforts to evolve Suva into a city rich in nature, reaffirming its reputation as one of the top cities for environmental quality according to the Global Cities Index.
