Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged all Fijians to take responsibility for the upkeep of the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which had an investment of $7 million.
During the park’s opening ceremony on Monday evening, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the significance of preserving the park as a space of comfort and pride for future generations.
He noted that the redeveloped park represents a substantial transformation from its previous state and embodies the nation’s advancement and dedication to urban renewal.
“This upgraded park now boasts modern amenities including a new podium structure, stylish night lights, contemporary park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and an enhanced landscape that incorporates both hardscapes and green spaces,” said Mr. Kamikamica.
He also mentioned that the new water feature adds a calming atmosphere, complementing the monument of Ratu Sukuna.
“More than just a green space, this park is an oasis in our vibrant city, providing peace, creativity, and a fresh start. It serves as a refuge where individuals can reconnect, spend time with loved ones, and redefine their life’s path,” he remarked.
Mr. Kamikamica emphasized that parks like Ratu Sukuna serve as vital components for the health and wellness of communities.
“They create spaces for families to gather, children to play, and individuals to find solace in nature. These areas enhance the livability of our cities, making them not only places to work and live but also to flourish,” he stated.
He called for collective efforts to further enhance Suva, aiming to maintain its reputation as one of the leading cities for environmental excellence on the Global Cities Index.
