Fijians Urged to Cherish the Revamped Ratu Sukuna Park

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged all Fijians to take ownership of the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which was completed at a cost of $7 million. During the park’s official opening ceremony on Monday evening, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the significance of preserving the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations.

He noted that the redevelopment represents a significant transformation from the park’s original state, illustrating the nation’s dedication to progress and urban renewal.

“This upgraded park includes modern amenities, such as a new podium structure, decorative night lights, contemporary park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and an enhanced landscape that harmonizes hardscape with green spaces,” Mr. Kamikamica explained.

He added that the new water feature enhances Ratu Sukuna’s monument, creating a tranquil atmosphere within the park.

“This park is not merely a green space; it is an oasis within our vibrant city, offering peace, tranquility, creativity, and a fresh start,” he emphasized. “It is a destination where individuals can pause, connect with loved ones, and establish new life paths.”

Mr. Kamikamica remarked that parks like Ratu Sukuna serve a greater purpose beyond recreation; they are vital for community health and well-being.

“They create spaces for families to gather, children to play, and individuals to escape into nature. Such areas contribute to the livability of our cities, making them not only places to work and live but also places to flourish.”

He concluded by encouraging continued cooperative efforts to enhance Suva into a nature-focused city, maintaining its reputation as one of the top cities for environmental sustainability on the Global Cities Index.
